MULTILINGUAL

A new language is a translation file. Not a project.

Nothing user-facing is hardcoded anywhere in Quarkino. Adding a language means adding translations — no code changes, no migration, no second site to keep in sync.

Nothing user-facing is hardcoded anywhere in Quarkino, so the only thing a new language needs is the words.

Two different problems, two different solutions.

Conflating them is why “multilingual” usually means one of the two works.

System text

Error messages, field labels, email copy — everything the platform itself says. All of it is read from a keyed message catalogue. No string is hardcoded in the code, anywhere. Adding a language means adding a catalogue.

Your content

Articles, products, pages. Modelled once with per-language siblings — an article is one thing in three languages, not three unrelated things. Which is why a correction in one language is visible as a gap in the others rather than silently diverging.

Your operator and your customer don't have to read the same language.

The admin panel's language and the public site's language are set independently. An administrator can work in English while the site serves Italian. For an agency running client sites in languages the team doesn't speak, this is the difference between manageable and not.

Know exactly what's missing.

Translation goes wrong quietly. All three of these are about making it loud.

Machine translation as a draft

Target languages can be generated automatically — always as a draft, always reviewable by a human, never published automatically. The machine does the typing; a person still decides.

Coverage tracking

See which content is complete, incomplete, or outdated in each language. “Which articles are missing a Catalan version?” is a list, not an investigation.

Source-revision awareness

When the source changes, its translations are marked as needing an update. A stale translation announces itself instead of quietly staying wrong.
